DISCIPLESHIP
Discovering Maturity 201
This class is for those who desire to learn practical ways to develop a closer relationship with God. Prayer, daily quiet time, fellowship and tithing
are some of the habits that we will work on developing.
"I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling."
1 Corinthians 2:3 (N.I.V)
What is your picture of the Apostle Paul, the man whom God used to write books of the Bible? He made such an impact on the world, it is difficult to see him as anything but the kind of man who walked into every situation overflowing with confidence and exuding personality, sort of an apostolic John Wayne.
The question is, "Is our picture of a servant, God's picture of a servant, God's picture of a servant?" NO! Look again at 1 Corinthians 2:3 and notice the words "weakness" and "fear" and "trembling." We want more confidence, and God uses weak people. We want to feel a sense of spiritual invincibility, and God uses people who are afraid. We want to "look cool" while we serve, and God uses trembling servants. Sometimes our all too American idea of serving God leaves us feeling, "Only Superman (or Superwoman) need apply." But God uses Moses - who had run in fear to the desert, or David - who had fallen for temptation, or Gideon - who was hiding in a winepress, or Peter - who denied Jesus three times. God uses a trembling apostle Paul to change the world. God can use you! NOT when you get rid of your weakness and fear and trembling... but right now, in spite of and even through the doubts and struggles and fears that we all face everyday. At Colonial, we want to help you to become the servant that God has made you to be. We feel that there is no more important job that we have as a church! That is why we are so strongly emphasizing Class 301. We've found again and again that these classes enable us to make the commitments that lead us to be all that God has made us to be. I wish I could tell you all of the great stories we hear about people's growth as a result of attending these classes and making these commitments.
